Apple waited until the final day to unveil the highly anticipated M4 MacBook Pros. These laptops are available in the familiar 14-inch and 16-inch sizes and offer three chipset options: the M4, the M4 Pro—which debuted with the latest Mac mini—and the all-new M4 Max, designed for users with demanding workflows.

The new MacBook Pros feature the same Liquid Retina XDR displays, with the 14-inch model at a 3,024 x 1,964 px resolution and the 16-inch model at 3,456 x 2,234 px. Both displays are 120Hz ProMotion panels with True Tone and cover the P3 color gamut. Apple also introduces an optional nano-texture finish, like on the 2024 iPad Pros, allowing up to 1,000 nits of SDR brightness and 1,600 nits in HDR.

A new 12MP front camera with Center Stage technology ensures users remain centered in the frame even when moving, while also improving video quality.

Apple claims the M4 series features “the world’s fastest CPU core” and “the industry’s best single-threaded performance.” Single-core performance has been a key strength of Apple’s Mac chips since the M1, and the M4 series is expected to deliver “dramatically faster multithreaded performance.”

The M4 Pro and M4 Max chips offer faster GPU cores, with a 2x faster ray-tracing engine and neural engine compared to the M3 series. The M4 Max provides up to 16 CPU cores, 40 GPU cores, and up to 128GB of unified memory, achieving 3.5x the performance of the M1 Max.

The I/O setup remains largely the same, though the 14-inch base model now includes a third Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port. The left side features the familiar MagSafe charging port, 2x Thunderbolt 4 (Thunderbolt 5 on the M4 Pro and Max models), and a headphone jack. The opposite side offers 1x HDMI, a third Thunderbolt 4/5 port, and an SDXC card slot. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

The 14-inch models have 72.4Wh batteries and come with 70W (M4) or 96W (M4 Pro/Max) adapters, while the 16-inch model includes a 100Wh battery and a 140W USB-C adapter. Apple claims the base M4 model can achieve up to 24 hours of battery life, while the 16-inch M4 Max can last up to 18 hours on a single charge.

The new MacBook Pros are available in Space Black and Silver. The base M4 MacBook Pro 14 starts at $1,599 with 16GB of RAM. The M4 Pro model costs an additional $400, while the M4 Max model begins at $3,199. The 16-inch M4 Pro MacBook Pro starts at $2,499, and the M4 Max version is priced at $3,499.
