BMW Unveils the New 2 Series Active Tourer Minivan with Redesigned Exterior and Interior

BMW has today unveiled its new 2-Series Active Tourer compact minivan. It’s predecessor was the first from the automaker to feature a front wheel drive back in 2014. The new model comes with a much improved and modern design from the exterior to the interior.

The redesigned exterior brings sleeker, surfaces, a wider track, and a much more aggressive look at the front thanks mostly to an enlarged, BMW iX inspired grille. LED headlights will come standard but adaptive headlights with a matrix function that leaves the high beam permanently on will be offered as an option.

Moving to the interior, a lot of the predecessors physical controls have been replaced by a touch screen that also incorporates the infotainment hub which is clearly inspired by the new iX as well. Some physical buttons still remain, such as window defrosters, hazard lights, and volume control.

Standard features in the interior include navigation, four USB-C ports and a 12V power socket, a leather steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers, and numerous driver-assist features including a reversing camera and parking assist. To spice things up, you have options for a wireless charging pad for mobile devices, heads-up display, and surround-view cameras.

In terms of seats, the new 2 Series Active Tourer can comfortably seat five. Folding the rear seats can adjust capacity upto 1,455 liters. An electric tailgate will come standard, however, options will be available for a panoramic glass roof, Harman Kardon audio system, and an electrically deployable trailer hitch. If you are looking for a seven seater, you will have to settle for the outgoing model which can still be ordered with 3 rows of seats, BMW hasn’t announced plans to update it.

Under the hood, the engine options start with a 218i model with a turbocharged 1.5-liter unit producing 136 horsepower (100 kilowatts) and 230 Newton-meters of torque. Up next is the 220i churning 170 hp (125 kW) and 280 Nm of torque . The top models include a four-cylinder 223i version which uses a larger 2.0-liter unit with 218 hp (160 kW) and 360 Nm of torque. Diesel fans get the 218d with a four-cylinder 2.0-liter producing 150 hp (110 kW) and 360 Nm.

Later on by mid-2022 BMW will add 225e and 230e plug-in hybrids, they will come standard with all-wheel drive and offer outputs of 241 hp and 321 hp, respectively.

February 2022 is when the new BMW 2-Series Active Tourer compact minivan will get a market launch. You can order the minivan now, with prices starting at £30,265 ($41, 113).
