The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has provided an update on the level of preparation for administering the national examinations at grade eight, and four candidates are currently being trained.

KNEC CEO David Njeng’ere issued a statement in which he asked principals, teachers, parents, students, and other education stakeholders to verify and confirm registration information.

When checking out, the year of birth and gender should match the information on the birth certificate that was used during the registration process.

Candidates wishing to enter secondary schools must correctly enter their choices in the various categories. It is obtained from county, extra-county, and even national schools.

Applicants taking the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams must have their names matched to those on their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) certificates during this time.

The verification process should also ensure that KCSE candidates’ subject choices are correct and meet the grading criteria outlined in the 2021 Exam Registration Circular.

KCPE repeaters will need to double-check their index number and code entries. Cross-check candidate photos to ensure they match those in the KNEC album.

Parents of special-needs children should also double-check that their children’s registration information is correct.

In the event of a discrepancy, parents and teachers are asked to send official communication to KNEC’s CEO by November 30, when the process will conclude.

Here’s how to do the checking:

  • This year, KNEC’s process for verifying details allows candidates to do so on their own.
  • Sending a short text message with the candidate index number to 20076 will result in the message being returned with the candidates’ registration information. For example, send 3666007634 KCSE to code 20076.

KCPE 2021 will start on Monday, March 7, 2022, and end on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. Rehearsals will take place on March 4, 2022.

KCSE 2021 will begin on Monday, February 28, 2022, and will conclude on Friday, April 1, 2022.
