Nissan unveils a Tron and Avatar inspired “Max-Out” electric convertible concept

Nissan unveiled a few concept vehicles in 2021. One of those futuristic cars it presented was the Max-Out, a convertible two-seater sports car, but the automaker only released a render of what it was supposed to look like.

Now, at the launch of the Nissan Futures event in Yokohama, the company has shown off a real-life physical version of the Max-Out, and it appears that the they stayed true to its original design.

It’s still a two-seater convertible with neon lights on the headlights and edges. The design of the EV combines elements from several sci-fi franchises, including Tron and Avatar. But, aside from showing how it looks, Nissan hasn’t shared any details about the EV concept, most likely because it doesn’t plan to form a production version of it anytime soon, if at all.

When the Max-Out was first revealed, it came along with the Surf-Out pickup truck, Hang-Out SUV, and Chill-Out coupe-like crossover concepts. Nissan pledged at the time to develop 23 electrified vehicles and launch 15 of them by 2030. It intends to target a market mix of 75% electrified vehicles in Europe and 40% electrified vehicles in the United States and China. So far, they have only released one, their first fully electric crossover SUV, Ariya, with a range of 216 to 304 miles depending on the variant.

According to Nissan, the Futures event will show how the company is “shaping the future of sustainable mobility and innovative design,” as well as how it is preparing for “the various challenges and opportunities that the coming large-scale transition to electric mobility will bring.”
