Moses Kuria Faces Strong Criticism from Kenya Union of Journalists for Controversial Media Remarks

In a strongly worded statement, the Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ) has expressed its disapproval of Trade and Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria’s recent comments about the Nation Media Group (NMG).

The statement, signed by KUJ secretary Eric Oduor, urges Kuria to show more restraint, as his remarks are tarnishing the nation’s reputation.

“We have taken note of the remarks attributed to Trade and Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, who is rapidly becoming a symbol of national disgrace. We would like to remind Mr Kuria that as a Cabinet Secretary, his actions and words should promote a positive image of Kenya,” the statement read.

Oduor highlights that Kuria’s reaction to NMG’s report on the utilization of taxpayers’ money is concerning.

The suggestion that public funds may have been misused is not only embarrassing but also implies that Kuria is indifferent to the struggles of ordinary Kenyans while enjoying his own privileges. The KUJ secretary also emphasizes the hope Kenyans had placed in President Dr William Ruto to combat corruption effectively. Oduor urges Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to broaden his focus beyond addressing alcohol consumption and take action against leaders who display a lack of responsibility.

“The media will outlive Mr. Kuria’s political career, and we eagerly await the opportunity to write his political obituary,” the statement concludes. Over the weekend, Kuria accused NMG of opposing President Dr. Ruto’s development initiatives and directed all government agencies to cease advertising with the media group.
