Apple isn’t new to the health and wellness space integrated into its devices, and according to a Bloomberg report, the company is readying a new feature for prediabetics. The tech giant tested an new app amongst its employees to help people with prediabetes better manage their condition.

Prediabetes is a metabolic condition when blood sugar levels are higher than normal which increases an individual’s risk for developing Type 2 diabetes. Although there is no cure for diabetes, prediabetes can be reversed through dietary and exercise interventions.

Bloomberg report stated that apple employees were required to “confirm they were pre-diabetic through a blood test” in order to participate in the test run. The employees kept track of their blood sugar using “various devices available on the market” and, further, logged changes related to the food they had been consuming. Reportedly, Apple has been working on sensors capable of tracking blood glucose without sticking a needle in the user to provide a non-invasive way monitor their health.

After the ECG and the irregular heart rhythm, this year Apple introduced sleep apnea tracking, and Hearing Aid for AirPods Pro 2. It seems the next area of focus will be continuous blood glucose tracking, the app will let you log food, and based on that, it will recommend your next meal to keep blood glucose levels stable and avoid spiking.
