Samsung announced the launch of its Micro RGB TV, the first display to feature a micro-scale RGB LED backlight behind a 115-inch screen. The company says the technology delivers full coverage of the BT.2020 color gamut, setting a new benchmark for ultra-premium television displays.

The Micro RGB TV uses Samsung’s proprietary architecture, which arranges red, green, and blue micro-LEDs — each less than 100µm in size — in an ultra-fine pattern behind the panel. The approach allows precise control of individual light sources, achieving what Samsung describes as industry-first accuracy across the full BT.2020 color standard set by the International Telecommunication Union.

“Micro RGB achieves unprecedented precision in the control of micrometer-sized RGB LEDs, raising the bar for color accuracy and contrast in consumer displays,” said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President and Head of the R&D Team of Samsung’s Visual Display Business.

The display is powered by the Samsung Micro RGB AI engine, which analyzes each frame in real time to optimize both color and sound. The system also enhances scenes with muted tones through what Samsung calls its Color Booster Pro feature. The TV has received “Micro RGB Precision Color” certification from VDE, a German electrical engineering standards body.

Samsung added features such as Glare Free technology to reduce reflections, a slim metal design, and Vision AI integration for content search and recommendations through Bixby voice commands. Security is supported by Samsung Knox, and the device comes with a seven-year free Tizen OS upgrade program.

The Micro RGB TV is available in the U.S. at a suggested retail price of $29,999. It is also on sale in Korea, with additional markets and screen sizes planned for future rollout.
