WhatsApp has become a a household name all over the world. People have used the application for both work and play. However, the number of file formats supported in transfers was limited and generally held back the full potential of the service.

The team behind WhatsApp has decided it is time to  lift the barrier. Previously, you could only send popular file format such as PDF and Microsoft Office files. The good news is that soon you will be able to send all forms of files. Hopefully sending apps will be supported too. Unfortunately, no release date was given.

It is good to note that WhatsApp has a limit to what file size you can send. On Apple iOS the maximum file size is 128MB, 100MB on Android, and 64MB on WhatsApp Web.

Considering that Facebook is the parent company of WhatsApp, and their services don’t have such limitations, you would expect that they would extend the same usability to all their offerings. Anyway, true freedom might come to WhatsApp eventually, for now let’s wait for the update to go live.
