Samsung Galaxy Fold launch postponed after news on screen faults

News around the new Galaxy Fold, Samsung’s one-of-a-kind, futuristic phone got most of us gadget freaks excited.

With a bit of nostalgia and a sense of creativity, Galaxy Fold is using multiple new technologies and materials to create a display that is flexible enough to fold. However, the Galaxy Fold’s display durability came into question after several review units failed during tests.

Some of the units broke after the confusing “protective layer” was mistakenly pulled off the screen. While in other cases the Fold weirdly failed after just a day or two of normal use for no obvious reason. Not once, not twice, not thrice but several sample users experienced issues with the Fold’s display and we don’t really know if Samsung will redeem themselves out of this.

The company said that initial findings from the inspection of reported issues on the display showed that they could be associated with impact on the top and bottom exposed areas of the hinge. There was also an instance where substances found inside the device affected the display performance.

Samsung confirmed reports from earlier that it is postponing the release of its $2,000 Galaxy Fold foldable phone only days before it was originally scheduled to go on sale.
Though disappointing to consumers who had already placed an order for Samsung’s one-of-a-kind, futuristic phone, this delay is certainly the right move.

Samsung has therefore decided to delay the release of the category-changing Galaxy Fold to make sure it measures up to the high standards they know consumers expect from them.

“Initial findings from the inspection of reported issues on the display showed that they could be associated with impact on the top and bottom exposed areas of the hinge. There was also an instance where substances found inside the device affected the display performance,” announced the company. “We will take measures to strengthen the display protection. We will also enhance the guidance on care and use of the display including the protective layer so that our customers get the most out of their Galaxy Fold.”

The company hopes to take measures to strengthen the display protection which might be quite some time before Samsung makes a second attempt at releasing the Fold. We should know more once Samsung’s promised update comes a couple weeks from now because they plan to announce the other new release date in the coming weeks. Biggest worry from this is, what happens to customers who had already pre-ordered, can they get refunds? And will this affect Samsung’s sales figures for the Galaxy fold? On the other hand, could this be good news for the Huawei Mate X which is also a foldable smartphone? Lets wait and see how that puns out.
