Lamudi01Rocket Internet backed real estate site Lamudi has today launched its Android app for house-hunters, available in 28 emerging markets worldwide to make the search of property simple in its over 400,000 property listings from Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.

The launch of free Android mobile platform follows the successful roll out of the company’s iOS app in four countries last week.-Pakistan, Mexico, Colombia and Morocco.

The Lamudi launched the  Android app as the platform remains the dominant mobile platform worldwide, according to recent figures from Statcounter and  Android has 60% of the 21 million total smartphone population in Kenya. Globally, more than 52% of smartphones are now running Google’s operating system. Apple’s iOS is the world’s second most common platform, capturing 23% of the global smartphone market.

In a statement, Sacha Poignonnec, co-CEO of Africa Internet Holding, Lamudi’s founder said: “The Lamudi app is the first app of its kind in the world, due to the vast outreach of the app to 28 different emerging markets around the world, 17 of which are in Africa.”

The Android app allows users to search, save and sync properties on all their Android devices and also has a match alert function, which notifies users as soon as a property that suits their needs hits the market. Users can also create a list of favorites to bookmark properties, which can be accessed at any time and on any device.

Both the website and the app have high-quality photo galleries, detailed property information, maps, and multiple contact details for property owners or agents. House-hunters can also share their favorite properties with family and friends via Facebook, Twitter or email.

In Kenya, Lamudi competes BuyrentKenya, Anza, Propertyleo, Property24 among others. Anza has both Android and iPhone apps.
