Analyst from Squire Technologies have noticed an increase in SMS usage especially in African countries in the last 12 months, giving great opportunity for businesses and enterprises to take advantage of.

This growth was especially seen in Squire Technologies’ SS7 to VoIP Media Gateway, that gives companies and organizations a way to use text messaging through the VoIP system.

“We’ve reported before that countries such as Ghana have experienced deregulation of the telecoms market, which has presented opportunities for telecom operators,” Squire Technologies’ regional Sales Manager for Africa, Zacc Couldrick, noted.

“SMS also enables mobile banking and the dissemination of news and marketing information to large audiences, which would otherwise have been impossible. These factors combined show that Africa has a great opportunity for growth and we have seen proof of this over the past few years,” he added.

Telecom companies in Africa though have seen the danger of free apps such as WhatsApp that could lead to the death of traditional SMS.
