biNu1biNu, a startup that transforms feature phones into smartphone-like devices, has received an innovation award from United Nations for bringing better quality life to people across the globe.

The innovation, dubbed ‘MY World Innovation Award’, was granted to the startup in what the UN terms as “biNu’s work towards creating the next set of Millennium Development Goals for the UN.”

biNu is said to have played an important role in a survey conducted by the UN towards formulating the goals, in which the startup’s technology was used to collect over 100,000 responses and 7,000 individual photos for the study.

“biNu is changing the lives of millions of people through connecting them, engaging them, and giving them fast easy access to information and services,” said biNu CEO Gour Lentell in a statement.

Lentell said that reaching people in some of the world’s most remote areas and enabling them to engage in a global conversation and have their opinions heard as part of the MY World Global Survey was incredibly rewarding.

“Being recognized for our efforts with the innovation award was unexpected but a great honor,” added Lintell.
