Zambian Transparency International wants an explanation from the Zambian Government as to why the digital migration terrestrial system tender was cancelled.

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) is part of the global anti-corruption organisation and it wants the government to report the root cause to avoid the same from recurring in the future.

The Executive Director of TIZ, Goodwell Lungu had this to say: “while the action that has been taken by the Zambian government to cancel the tender is commendable, leaving the perpetrators of such irregularities to go scot free may cause future potential procurement dangers as the perpetrators may opt to use the same weaknesses that led to the cancellation of the tender.”

Emmanuel Mwamba, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Service, had announced on Sunday that the tender had been cancelled; and it is alleged that this was done as a result of irregularities in the manner that the tender process was being handled.

The project includes forming provincial television stations, the supply, installation and commissioning of the digital terrestrial broadcasting system.

If this is the way a leader should act when they find out that someone is playing a dirty game on them, then we are yet to find out why they are leaders and why they get elected. Instead of investigating the Zambian government is cancelling the tender? Transparency International please insist on those answers because it is truly not there is something wrong somewhere.
