Startrek into Darkness

As someone who has grown up watching sci-fi movies, I have seen almost every Star Trek movie and suffered through characters/actors who I didn’t care for, and I realize we all have opinions about what makes this version so enduring.

After the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror, from within their own organization, has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew. The action is intense, the friendship deepened between the characters, the twists and turns are a bit predictable at times, but that is because of the franchise as a whole. I am already excited for the next movie.

Star Trek – Into the Darkness is fittingly named, it is rich in plot detail and exciting to watch especially in 3D. It will have many people sitting on the edge of their seats, willing those involved in the battle to succeed. Even the villain warrants a certain amount of sympathy from all fair minded people. The movie has some cliché moments, which can’t be avoided often with a movie this scale, however they make use of them well and still pack plenty of surprises.

The people behind this movie got to have their cake and eat it too; they made the most action-packed Star Trek movie ever, but at the end of the day, it’s also a statement of the core ideals of Star Trek and is to the norm. My advice is go, watch and be thrilled by a brilliant film. I know not all Trekkers will agree with me but let the haters hate, those who cannot embrace change can go sit and continue watching the old Star Trek. I boldly give this movie: 7.2 stars out 10, reason being the dialogue isn’t that awesome, but I do love the action. Other movies I compare this to are Matrix, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Riddick and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
