Jumia Kenya Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary |Hires New Managing Director

Rocket Internet-backed online retailer, Jumia Kenya yesterday celebrated its one year anniversary of its operations in Kenya claiming over over 50,000 items available to its users.

The event was also a handover from Jumia former directors Nick Miller and Oscar Bore who saw the firm launch from nothing to what it is now.

To celebrate the team’s achievements, JUMIA Kenya also officially launched its Marketplace, a B2C move to empower more African entrepreneurs to sell online at Jumia, the marketplace, will see local merchants sell their new products online to JUMIA’s huge customer base.

Accordingto new JUMIA Kenya MD Parinaz Firozi: “The team at JUMIA Kenya was so excited to be able to celebrate this significant milestone together at such an exciting event yesterday. There was a great mix of people at the event, and we all felt that the evening marked a special time for us to reflect on our achievements of the past year as well as looking ahead to even greater success in the year to come”

“We are confident that JUMIA will continue to grow and bring new products and services to our users while continuing to empower entrepreneurs in Kenya through our Marketplace as well as salesforce platforms. We look forward to growing along with Kenya and cannot thank our users, suppliers and employees enough for supporting us and helping us achieve the growth and success we have achieved today,” Firozi added.

Launched in Kenya in 2013, JUMIA now claims a huge assortment of over 50,000 high-quality items and nearly 100 employees from just Miller and Bore, a new 24,000sq ft warehouse and  as well as its new headquarters in Westlands. The firm has also expanded in Uganda and is set to expand across the continent.
