On Thursday night at around 11.30 pm Hope FM litseners were treated to Islamic music sending them into a panic and speculations on social media were rife that the station had been hijacked by muslims, a notion that sparked accusations and counter accusations between users.
In a statement, The Communications Authority has come out to deny the speculations attributing the occurrence to Hope FM technical staff not switching off their Studio Transmitter Link link to Limuru to carry out maintenance, they only switched the Studio Transmitter Link transmitter at their studio.
This resulted in the STL receiver at Limuru to pick broadcasts from adjacent transmitters feeding the same to Hope FM transmitter.
“Some of the adjacent transmitters to Hope FM include IQRA FM whose broadcasts filtered through to the transmitters of Hope FM. As the regulator of the ICT sector, CA routinely carries monitoring exercises to ensure such interferences are minimized,” said the regulator.
