John Kipchumba Tanui, Huawei Kenya’s Deputy CEO and VP for Delivery and Service divisions has been appointed CEO of Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) in a move the government expects will help revive the troubled project.
The bachelor’s Technology in Electrical and Communication Engineering and MBA in International Business holder was appointed Thursday by Information Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i in the presence of board’s chairman John Ngumi.
Engineer Tanui starts April 2015 and will replace Catherine Adeya-Weya who is moving on after two years at the helm of the KoTDA for 2 years albeit in acting capacity.
As a deputy CEO of Huawei Kenya and VP for Delivery and Service divisions, Engineer Tanui was in charge of project management, procurement, supply chain management, contract management, service sales, and network integration and managed services and has worked in the ICT sector across Africa and China.
Others appointed include Patrick Adolwa and Annah Musyimi to oversee the development of the Konza Technology City and as new project manager respectively.
Konza Techno City, a Kenya Vision 2030 flagship project aims to foster the growth of the technology industry in Kenya.
