Nigerians will now have to pay a little more for their entertainment channel, DStv nad Mulichoice blames it on the rate of inflation. A statement by the company says that the price hike has taken into account factors for the hike, some of which include the impact on the subscriber, current inflation, and efficiencies effected within the company that may offset the necessity for a price increase.
The company further said that the price hike will not only happen in Nigeria but also in all African companies where MultiChoice holds a presence. The price will take effect from 1 April 2015.
According to MultiChoice Africa, the price increase will set the DStv premium, which is currently at $77 per month to $81 per month. The 5-10 percent increment is the same across other DStv packages/bouquet but comes with ShortsTV, Ginx TV and Eurochannel as additional channels.
MultiChoice Nigeria noted that there was no price increase last year. Meanwhile, DStv subscribers in the country have opposed the increase in tariffs, saying the move comes from a lack of competition on the market. This is according to The Punch.
