In other cultures, purchasing flowers for loved ones is quite normal, and for many, those flowers are what they look forward to during valentine’s day celebration. But in a country like Nigeria, it’s uncommon to find love birds exchanging flowers, and this culture is probably what Olatam Oladitan wants to bring alive when he launched Regal Flowers in June 2016.
Regal Flowers is an eCommerce platform that enables Nigerians purchase fresh, beautiful flowers for the one that’s dear to their hearts.
According to the founder, he got the idea for Regal Flowers after he struggled to find a satisfactory place to order flowers online for his girlfriend (after a supposed break-up). In his words, “everyone has someone they care about.”
Asides flowers for romantic purpose, the platform also lists bridal bouquets, funeral wreaths and other gift items, including cakes and chocolates. It currently delivers to only Lagos, with plans to expand soon.
While the idea of an online flower delivery service might sound fascinating, the viability of the venture in a county like Nigeria is something to worry about. But with enough marketing, Regal Flowers might just be able to bring alive the culture of gifting flowers in Nigeria.
