Chinese based top Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) have released the much-anticipated Xiaomi Mi A1 smartphone that runs on stock Android OS – first of its kind from the stables of Xiaomi
Though some leaks and rumours had given some insights as to what to expect on Mi A1, Xiaomi further adds some new features that we have never heard, and some features that we didn’t expect on the mid-range smartphone.
Starting with the design and appearance of the Xiaomi Mi A1, one would begin to appreciate the effort and engineering put into creating the mid-range beauty. On the rear, the Xiaomi Mi A1 has a smooth coating on its finely finished fingerprint-resistant metallic body and the hind of the device plays home to the dual rear camera, fingerprint scanner and the Xiaomi “mi” brand logo. The device is super slim at 7.4 mm and almost has the same thickness as the recently launched LG V30 flagship. The overall dimension of the Xiaomi Mi A1 measures 155.4 x 75.8 x 7.3 mm and it has an approximate weight of 165g.
Moving to the front, you will be greeted by a big 5.5 inch Full HD display with a high display resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The display is a covered by 2.5D curved glass, same as the three capacitive navigation buttons located at the bottom of the display.
The device is adequately powered by Snapdragon 625 Octa core processor with a clock speed of 2.0 GHz. The processor works hand in hand with the built-in 4GB RAM to produce smooth usage and sleek overall user experience. The native multi-window feature of the stock Android v7.1.2 Nougat OS on the Xiaomi Mi A1 will provide users with a hitch-free multitasking experience and app usage. Since the Mi A1 is a device under the Android One project, it will be among the first devices to receive any newly released version(s) of an Android OS. And as Xiaomi have promised, the Xiaomi Mi A1 will get the Android 8.0 Oreo OS update before the year runs out.
The Xiaomi Mi A1 comes with huge 64 GB of internal storage. And just in case that seem not to be enough for your storage needs, you can buffer the storage up to 128 GB using an external micro SD card.
The “A1” suffix in the name of the device stands for “Android One” and other specs of the device includes Dual 12 MP rear camera, 5 MP selfie camera, Dual SIM support, USB Type C port, and 3,080 mAh battery.
The Xiaomi Mi A1 was announced not quite long and it will be shipping to different countries of the world as seen below. South Africa seem to be the only country that will receive the Xiaomi Mi A1 smartphone for now.
