Some games will come and go, but classic table games like Poker and Roulette have been a constant in land-based casinos throughout history. Nowadays, the games continue to thrive and have taken to the online gaming scene, where they remain popular amongst professional players and amateurs alike. Online gaming is convenient since you can play wherever you are, subject to a stable internet connection, and it also allows you the flexibility to try new games and figure out your playing preferences.

If you’re a fan of the classic games and can’t quite decide which is your favourite, then you’re in luck, as in this article we’ll compare Poker and Roulette, to help you to decide which one should be next on your gaming agenda.

Roulette

Roulette is a surprisingly simple game, comprising of a table and a wheel, which is adorned with various numbers divided into sections. These sections are either red or black, and are called pockets. In a classic, European game of Roulette, the wheel will incorporate numbers one to 36 and also have one zero. If you play a game of American Roulette, you’ll notice that the wheel includes an additional double zero, which increases the house edge of the game.

On the table, you’ll place your bets on where you think the small white ball will land on the wheel and you’ll have the opportunity to bet on a variety of different outcomes. This includes, odd and even numbers, black or red, single numbers or groups of numbers, with the odds for these bets varying, depending on the likeliness of the ball landing there. And that’s pretty much it in terms of major Roulette rules, as we said, the game is simple. So if you’re a newcomer to the gambling world, you might choose to play Roulette online to ease you into the world of online table gaming.

Poker

Casino games are all about luck, and there are no guaranteed wins because inevitably, Lady Luck  isn’t always going to be on your side. Poker is no exception, and the most popular form of Poker is No Limit Texas Hold’em, so we will run you through the rules of this game. Each player is dealt two cards and they lie face down on the table. These cards are called two-hole cards and following the dealing of these, five community cards are then placed on the table.

The aim of the game is to use your hole cards, in addition to your hand of community cards, to produce the most lucrative hand. The concept is simple really, as the person with the best hand at the table will win the jackpot. Texas Hold’em involves something called a blind and these come in the form of a small blind and a big blind. These are effectively bets that are forced upon players, meaning that you will have to place a bet before the cards are dealt, ensuring that there are enough chips in the pot that are worthy of play.

Although the concept of Poker is simple and it’s relatively easy to get the hang of, to be the best of the best, you have to master the game, which can take years. Ultimately, the game does in fact involve a fair bit of skill, since you have to act strategically in order to make the best possible card combination and form a winning hand.

Both Roulette and Poker are casino classics for a reason, they’re thrilling and will have you on the edge of your seat, so arguably there’s a time and place for both of them. At an online casino you won’t have to decide between the two, since they’re both readily available to play and come in a variety of different forms to keep your gameplay exciting. If you’re a beginner however, you might prefer the simplicity of Roulette to ease you into table games!
