Want to use the same WhatsApp account on two different phones without having to log out of the first phone? Here’s how.
So you want to share the same WhatsApp account on two separate phones?
Technically, you can’t (yet): “There is no option to have a WhatsApp account with two phone numbers”, says the WhatsApp FAQs – an unhelpful answer if you have a second phone but don’t want to deactivate WhatsApp on your first phone.
In the near future, this feature could be coming as WhatsApp has just opened up a beta multi-device feature so anyone can try it out. You’ll be able to link four devices to your WhatsApp account, and while it will initially be restricted to WhatsApp Web, WhatsApp Desktop and Portal, the fact WhatsApp is also working on a logout option gives us hope that we might eventually be able to link multiple phones, too.
In the meantime, there is a very simple workaround to get WhatsApp working on two phones at once. The solution is WhatsApp Web, and though it won’t let you use the WhatsApp app on both phones it will let you access the same account on separate devices using a browser. Here’s how:
- Open the browser on your second phone and head to WhatsApp Web (web.whatsapp.com)
- Go to the Settings (three dots in the top right corner) and switch over to Desktop View, which should take you to a page with a QR code.
(If you get redirected to the WhatsApp desktop homepage, just click “WhatsApp Web” in the top left).
- Open the WhatsApp app on your first phone and go to Settings > Click on WhatsApp Web > Click on Link Device
- Scan the QR code from your second phone
You should now be able to use WhatsApp on both phones.
