WhatsApp has finally launched a new group call feature to make it easier for users to join calls.
WhatsApp on Monday rolled out the Joinable group call feature which let users join a group call minutes after it started. So now you won’t miss any group call even if you are caught up in your work.
The new feature will let you join once you are done with your work. You can also leave the call midway and then rejoin a couple of minutes later. Until now, WhatsApp users did not have this feature. If you have missed a call, you have missed it. There was no way to rejoin it.
Announcing the new feature, WhatsApp said in a statement:
“At a time when so many of us are apart, there’s nothing better than getting together on a group call with friends and family, and there’s nothing worse than realizing that you missed a special moment As the popularity of group calls continues to grow, we’ve been working to improve the experience for our users – while of course still providing the security and privacy of end-to-end encryption. Today we’re introducing the ability to join a group call, even after it’s started. Joinable calls reduce the burden of answering a group call as it starts, and brings the spontaneity and ease of in-person conversations to a group calling on WhatsApp.”
WhatsApp has created a call info screen so you can see who is already on the call, and who has been invited but has not joined yet. You can choose the ignore the call by hitting the ignore button, but you can join the call later from the calls tab in WhatsApp.
Here is how you can use Joinable group calls:
— When someone adds you in a group call, you will first receive the notification from the app
— If you do not want to join immediately, you can tap the “Ignore” button. But if you want to join, you can open the call info screen, tap Join.
— You can check the number of participants or people who are yet to join the call from the call menu.
— To join the call later, you can “Tap Join” to join the call. You will see the option in your chat window.
— While on the call, tap Open to open the call info screen. You can add more people to the call by tapping on Add Participant option.
— Similarly, you can Tap RING to send a notification to people who’ve already been invited.
You can update your app to get the Joinable calls feature.
