The NEXT-IMAGE Awards, Huawei’s annual smartphone photography competition, will be held in 2021. This year’s NEXT-IMAGE Awards theme is “Better Together.” Beginning today, Huawei users all over the world can submit their photographic and video masterpieces for a chance to win one of 70 incredible prizes, including the new HUAWEI P50 and cash prizes of up to $10,000.
The deadline for entries is November 30, 2021. Huawei’s NEXT-IMAGE Awards is the world’s largest smartphone photography competition, with over 2 million entries since the competition’s inception in 2017*. With an easy entry mechanism and over 70 chances to win, amateur smartphone photographers and visual storytellers from around the world are set to light up the competition for the fifth year in a row.
This year’s NEXT-IMAGE Awards will be judged by a panel of photography experts from around the world, representing a wide range of backgrounds and countries. Reuben Krabbe, a Canadian extreme sports photographer, will be joined by Karen Smith, a renowned art critic from the United Kingdom, and Olivier Chiabodo, a French radio, and television producer. As a Pulitzer-winning photographer and founder of the Shanghai Center of Photography, Liu Heung Shing, is joined by Lin Haiyin, one of the grand prize winners of the Next-Image Awards 2020, the judging panel has a sense of what it’s like to win photography prizes. Yu Guoming, professor at BNU’s School of Journalism and Communication, and Li Changzhu, vice-minister of the HUAWEI Consumer Business Group’s Consumer Strategy Marketing Department, round out the judging panel.
The beauty of visual storytelling is celebrated in ten categories.
The Student Focus awards, which have ten prizes up for grabs, encourage entrants to experiment with different perspectives, formats, and lighting conditions.
- Portrait
Portrait photography, at its best, tells rich and compelling human stories better than words could ever do. Submit your best portrait shots, whether they’re of yourself, a loved one, or a model.
- Monochrome
Colors are removed from monochrome images, allowing the viewer to focus on the subjects, textures, shapes, patterns, and composition. Use black and white photography to capture the mood, fun, or uniqueness of the scene.
- Colour
Huawei smartphones are well-known for their ability to produce vibrant, life-like photographs. Express yourself through smartphone photography to show your true colors.
- Snapshot Photography encourages you to live in the moment by capturing memorable moments and scenes. Create a photograph that tells a compelling story or captures a memorable moment in time.
- Night
Huawei smartphones capture incredible night scenes without the use of a flash thanks to AI. Under the cover of darkness, get creative and capture a memorable night shot.
- Telephoto
Zoomed-in photos are usually blurry or of poor quality for many smartphone users. With Huawei, however, this is not the case. Use your telephoto lens to focus on important details and demonstrate the clarity of your zoomed-in shots.
- Extremely Wide Angle
Wide-angle lenses allow photographers to get as close to the subject as possible while still capturing important background elements. Make viewers feel as if they’re seeing the scene with their own eyes rather than through a photograph by using your mobile photography skills.
- Super Macro
The small details matter in photography, just as they do in life. Show off your camera’s ability to capture tiny details up close by experimenting with different macro photography subjects and techniques.
- Story Creator
To express your creativity and tell your story through moving images, shoot and produce a 15-minute mobile-shot movie. Assume the role of director as you create a cinematic masterpiece for the world to see.
- Storyteller
Unlike the other categories, which only allow you to upload a single photo, this category allows you to use a group of photos (3-9) to express emotions, tell a story, record changes, or discover new things.
