Instagram will soon allow you to select which posts appear first in your feed. Instead of a chronological feed, Instagram’s current feed is driven by algorithms.
With a favorites feature, Instagram is now working on giving you the option of selecting which posts you want to see rank higher in your feed.
The newer Favourites feature operates differently, giving you more control over which new posts appear at the top of your feed.
Instagram currently uses a fixed algorithm to determine which posts appear at the top of your feed. These could be the most recent and most shared posts, as well as other factors such as how likely you are to engage with a post. In a blog post published in June 2021, the platform explained how its algorithm works.
There is no guarantee that the new Instagram Favourites feature will make it globally or whether it will pick up a few more changes along the way because it is currently being tested.
Currently, only a few users will be able to use the Favourites feature. Those who are eligible will find the options by looking for the Favourites section in the menu on their Profile Page, which is located under the Close Friends section.

This feature, revealed by Alessandro Paluzzi, a prolific app reverse engineer, will come in handy when you sort the people you follow between brands and actual friends/family or acquaintances so that posts from your friends appear first when you open your feed and then you can see posts from brands you follow later.
