Sony Pictures and Hyundai have partnered in a product placement on the new Spider Man movie, ‘No Way Home’. In the blockbuster two Hyundai vehicles will be featured, the Tucson and the Iconiq 5 with the latter being the main star.

In anticipation for the movie, Hyundai has released a commercial that shows Spiderman hitching a 300-mile ride to New York with his best friend Ned Leeds played by Jacob Batalon in the all-electric Ioniq 5. You can already guess, the vehicle has a 300 mile (483 km) range when fully charged. The commercial goes for a minute and a half including a post-credit scene just like in Marvel movies. The other vehicle Hyundai Tucson SUV has a 30-second spot which shows key scenes from the film, including those starring Tucson and Tom Holland.

Thomas Schemera, Global Chief Marketing Officer at Hyundai, said, “The placement of the all-electric IONIQ 5 and all-new TUCSON in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ marks the first meaningful milestone in the strategic partnership between Hyundai Motor Company and Sony Pictures Entertainment. We expect great marketing impact from this collaboration. This exciting film and the two vehicles’ inclusion in key moments of the storyline played by the main characters will exhilarate the minds of millions of viewers around the world.”

The Hyundai Iconiq 5 crossover is a very interesting car from the bold design, to the super fast charging capability. In just 5 minutes, it is able to add 100 km to its range thanks to ultra-fast charging technology. From 10 to 80 per cent takes just over 17 minutes through a 350 kW charger.

Under the hood, there’s a 2 wheel drive (2WD) variant that features a single electric motor at the rear producing 214 hp (160 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. By comparison, the flagship AWD version has a 207 hp (155 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) electric motor at the rear and a 94 hp (70 kW) and 188 lb-ft (255 Nm) motor at the front, for a total of 302 hp (225 kW) plus 446 lb-ft (605 Nm) torque.

The top tier version hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.2 seconds, while the 2WD can hit that same mark in 7.4 seconds.

In terms of pricing, the Ioniq 5 2WD is available from $52,295 while the Ioniq 5 AWD starts at US$55,204.

Showing up in the blockbuster movie will be a major boost to the commercial success of the two vehicles considering the Marvel movies get a lot of eye balls, for example, the prequel SpiderMan: Far From Home had grossed more than a billion dollars worldwide as the fourth-highest-grossing movie of 2019 and the 25th-highest-grossing movie of all time.
