Understanding Various screen technologies: LCD, OLED, Micro-LED, and so on

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Technology

This is the most widely used technology on the market. These televisions (LED TVs) use LCD panels with an LED backlight for picture display. The backlight, which used to be made of neon tubes, is now LEDs. In-Plane Switching (IPS) and Vertical Alignment (VA) panels are the two types of LCD panels available today. The form and qualities of the liquid crystals utilized in these slabs distinguish them and directly influence the picture quality presented. As a result, there are disparities, in contrast, brightness, and even viewing angles.

The Mini-LED technology

It uses the same backlighting technique as LCD to generate light, then sent through an LCD matrix and color filters to show the final image. The Mini-LED technology allows tighter control of blacks on a tiny section of the screen by doubling the number of LEDs.

Micro-LED technology

They stand out because they are smaller than OLED and joined together to make a single pixel. They are smaller, allowing for the constant production of thinner and lighter screens. They also have a brighter display with up to 5000 nits of brightness, which is ideal for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, as OLED screens typically have a maximum brightness of fewer than 1000 nits.

OLED technology

Compared to the LCD technology, the “Organic Light-Emitting Diode,” or OLED, technology represents a notable technical advancement. The OLED is unique in that it produces light thanks to an organic substance that glows when exposed to an electric current. As a result, OLED differs from LED technology in that it does not require a backlight, whereas LED technology requires.
