Union Bank, through its education platform Edu360, has partnered with foremost gaming company Kucheza, to organise the second  edition of the Mobo Game Jam.

Mobo Game Jam is an annual game development competition designed to encourage inclusivity, sustainability, and humanity amongst young innovators from Nigeria and the UK between the ages of 8-18 years.

The goal of the competition is to promote gaming as a tool to harness the power of creativity and imagination of young people while bridging the digital skills gap within our educational system.

Each year, participants are tasked with creating games that combine creativity, compassion and computational thinking to solve pressing global issues. Last year’s edition tagged ‘Future on Tap’ received over 1,000 submissions of game prototypes that explored how to achieve a future where everyone has access to clean water. This year, in response to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 on climate action, the focus is on clean air, with the theme Carbon Neutrality and Clean Air. Participants will be encouraged to imagine a world where we can have a reduced carbon footprint.

The competition is open to individuals and teams who meet the age requirement and are innovative and passionate about games. They are invited to submit their entries which could be a game or a game concept that tackles the global problem of carbon emissions. The deadline for submission is February 25, 2022.

To promote a cross cultural exchange of ideas and help improve their digital skills, participants have access to free weekly masterclasses and tutoring sessions from industry experts. Winners will be rewarded with cash prizes and laptops for individuals and computing labs for winning schools. There will also be a live showcase for the top entries.
