In order to create room for the new i3 sedan, BMW has announced that it will stop production of the i3 model.

The initial i3 model debuted in 2013 and was only made in BMW’s Leipzig production facility.

More than 74 nations sell the BMW i3, and the company has finished assembling the 250,000th i3. 80 percent of i3 sales, according to BMW, were to consumers switching from other brands during the i3’s years on the market.

According to BMW, the i3 is the most successful EV in the “luxury compact market.” The BMW i3 was initially offered with a choice of all-electric or with a range-extender engine (REx). The extender engine never directly powered the wheels, instead only ever charging the battery.

To commemorate the end of production of this important car, BMW has produced a limited-edition HomeRun Edition based on the i3. There will only be ten of these cars made.

For the HomeRun Edition, BMW developed a special Frozen paint finish. It has motorized glass roof, adaptive LED headlights, 20-inch double-spoke alloy wheels, and solar control glazing.

The interior is done in Vernasca Dark Truffle leather with a leather instrument panel, a leather steering wheel with galvanized trim, and a Carum Grey roof lining.
