Airtel network Kenya has made some changes.

For the company’s upcoming phase of expansion, Mr. Louis Onyango Otieno has been named Chairman and Mr Ashish Malhotra has been named Managing Director by the Board of Airtel Networks Kenya Limited.

The new chairman has over 30 years of significant leadership experience in the commercial and public sectors of ICT, as well as a demonstrated track record as a board member in organizations across industries. He started his career in New York with EEC Financial Services, where he eventually attained the post of Assistant Vice President.

Later, in 1997, he joined Microsoft Corporation, where for the next 21 years he served in various leadership roles for the company’s operations in Africa. Both his MBA from Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York and his Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York, are held by Mr Otieno.

In addition to a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York, Mr Otieno also possesses an MBA from Long Island University in Brooklyn.

The chairman of Absa Asset Management Limited is Mr Otieno. Additionally, he serves as a non-executive independent director for Nation Media Group Plc and Absa Bank Kenya Plc.

With more than 21 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, Mr Malhotra has a plethora of knowledge.

Prior to this, he oversaw the department in 14 countries where Airtel operates as the Group Head of Sales and Marketing at Airtel Africa. In this capacity, he helped the various nations develop strong distinctive selling propositions, streamline pricing systems, and double revenues.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from Sri Ram College of Commerce in India and an MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS), both in India. Prasanta Das Sarma, who has held the role since January 2017 and helped Airtel Kenya become the fastest-growing telecom business in Kenya by increasing its customer base from 5 million to 16 million, will be replaced by him.

“We wish to congratulate Mr Otieno and Mr Malhotra on their appointment and wish them success in their new roles. We look forward to working with them to take Airtel Kenya to the next level, as we continue delivering innovative and relevant solutions for individuals and businesses in the country,” the Board said in a statement.
