Pay Television Company StarTimes Media has launched a dedicated women’s sports channel for its Kenyan subscribers. The channel, to be known as W-Sport will exclusively broadcast women’s sports content with over 3,000 hours a year of original content including 1,000 hours of LIVE and short delay events and over 300 football matches.
W-Sport will offer live football games from English League, Italian League, German League, Dutch League, Australian League, Swedish League, Women’s Euro 2022 finals and Copa America Femenina 2022.
Besides football, the channel will showcase motorsport including W Series Live and Extreme E, basketball including FIBA 3 X 3 and NCAA basketball, Super League Triathlon series, Wimbledon Classic matches, and Athletes Unlimited Volleyball, Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse Tournament and various UCI cycling events each season.
Speaking when the company unveiled the channel, StarTimes Regional Marketing Director Mr Aldrine Nsubuga noted that the introduction of the W-Sports channel is a major milestone and significant boost to women’s sports across different disciplines and goes to demonstrate the broadcaster’s keen interest in a rich and diverse sports offering for its subscribers.
“Women sports have not received as much sports coverage in the past, we are now changing this by availing a dedicated channel to focus on different sports disciplines where we will deliberately focus on major tournaments that will definitely build interest among our subscribers,” noted Mr Nsubuga.
The channel joins an enriched sports offering from the broadcaster including Sports Premium (HD), World Football (HD), Sports Life, Sports Arena and Sports Focus as well as ESPN, ESPN 2 and Manchester United TV.
Football fans can look forward to key sports events that will be taking place during the upcoming weekend among them the Finals of the Women’s EURO 2022 pitting England against Germany on Sunday 31st July from 7 pm on the W-Sports channel.
Manchester United fans will also have an opportunity to catch up with upcoming fixtures including Manchester United vs Atletico Madrid on July 30th from 3 pm and Manchester United vs Rayo Vallecano on July 31st from 6 pm on Manchester United TV.
With the start of the Bundesliga just a week away, this year’s two most in-form teams go head-to-head for the first silverware of the season – the DFB Pokal. Hosts and first-time DFB Pokal winners RB Leipzig will face visitors and reigning Bundesliga champions FC Bayern München on Saturday 30th July from 9:30 pm on World Football Channel.
