For its Spotify Premium subscribers, Spotify has announced that it will separate the Shuffle and Play buttons.
“This new change will allow you to choose the mode you prefer at the top of playlists and albums and listen to it the way you want to. Whether you love the joy of the unexpected with Shuffle mode or prefer listening to tunes in order by simply pressing Play,” they said in a statement.
In the upcoming weeks, the new version will be made available to iOS and Android users worldwide.
For Ksh.999 per month, Spotify Premium offers a totally ad-free experience with unlimited skips and other benefits.
Since you can already shuffle, adding that interface as differentiation between their free and premium experiences doesn’t make much sense, but let’s see how it works. Spotify said to TechCrunch that the decision to charge for the button is based on how it views the advantages of a Premium Subscription.
In essence, paid subscribers have the ability to stream any music they choose at any time. The button is kind of an extension of that because it gives people the option to select how they want to listen on-demand.
