Are you experiencing stutters or an unusual lack of autonomy on your Android or iOS smartphone? One of the apps that the cybersecurity experts at Human Society pin may have been something you installed.
The firm has reported about 75 Android apps and 12 iOS applications that are purported to be causing several issues on both Android and Ios Operating Systems. The main problem highlighted is that the concerned Applications display several advertisements in the background and covertly as soon as they are installed to maximize revenue.
Even more bizarrely, some programs disguise themselves as video streaming apps in order to give the impression to the different advertising agencies that they belong to a far more lucrative category of applications after being installed on a phone.
This large-scale fraud operation is associated with the Poseidon scam, which has been going on since at least 2019. By obscuring some of its code, a Poseidon variation named Charybdis was already strengthening the fraud mechanisms in 2020. The scam that fascinates us today, Scylla, goes even farther because of its very stealthy execution techniques.
