The Volkswagen ID.7 made its debut as the brand’s new flagship electric car. It is scheduled to be available in Europe and China this year, and in North America in 2024.
The ID.7 comes in two versions: Pro and Pro S. Both have a 282 horsepower electric motor. The Pro has an 82-kilowatt-hour gross rating (77-kWh net) battery that delivers an estimated WLTP-cycle range of 382 miles (615 kilometers). The system is capable of charging at 170-kW DC.
The Pro S receives a pack with a 91-kWh gross capacity (86-kWh net) with an estimated driving range of 435 miles (700 km). The charging capacity in DC is 200 kW.
The ID.7 is 195.3 inches (4,961 millimeters) long and has a wheelbase of 116.8 inches (2,966 millimeters). These dimensions are roughly equivalent to those of a Mercedes-Benz EQE electric sedan.
The new EV features an innovative augmented reality head-up display (HUD) as standard. Options on the steering wheel can control the information displayed on the HUD, such as speed, turn instructions, and warnings.
The dashboard comes with a 15-inch infotainment system but cabin temperature and audio volume controls have been left on illuminated touch sliders.
There’s a Travel Assist system which incorporates adaptive cruise control and assisted lane changing features. The system is able to detect speed limits and automatically adjust the vehicle accordingly.
Voice instructions are also accepted by the ID.7. For example, if a motorist says, “Hello IDA, my hands are cold,” a warm stream of air is directed towards the person’s fingertips and the steering wheel heater is activated.
Upgradable options include 14-way power adjustable seats with massaging functions, a panoramic roof, and an advanced air-conditioning system.
VW will manufacture the ID.7 in Emden, Germany, for the European and North American markets. The manufacturing process will commence in the second half of the year. There are no pricing details available for any region.
