Toyota showcased two new BEV concept vehicles under the Beyond Zero bZ series at Auto Shanghai 2023.

The concept cars, dubbed the bZ Sport Crossover and bZ FlexSpace, will go into production in China in 2024 as part of the automaker’s aim to deliver ten BEV models by 2026.

The bZ Sport Crossover has an SUV-coupe body shape and appears to be larger in size than the Toyota bZ Compact SUV Concept. Toyota claims that the vehicle has been developed to create enough personal space for Generation Z customers.

The bZ Sport Crossover also contains clever features that will continue to improve after purchase, presumably through over-the-air software updates, such as driver assistance.

BYD Toyota EV Technologies (a joint venture between BYD and Toyota), FAW Toyota Motor, and Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing China (TMEC) are working together to develop the model. FAW Toyota Motor plans to develop and sell the production version of the Toyota bZ Sport Crossover in China.

The bZ FlexSpace Concept is a utility-focused electric SUV aimed for families. According to Toyota, the concept of this model is “Cozy House,” which provides a space for families and comfort. While providing a lengthy cruising range between battery charges, advanced comfort and safety features will be implemented.

Toyota and Guangzhou Automotive Group (GAC) are working together to develop the bZ FlexSpace Concept, which will be sold by GAC Toyota Motor.

Toyota didn’t reveal any details regarding the powertrain of either concept, however, the two EVs will debut sometime next year.
