The highly anticipated WEkEO Hackathon is just around the corner, set to take place on June 22nd and 23rd.
This groundbreaking event aims to support talented participants in developing tools that enhance climate resilience and create a positive impact on our environment.
Attendees will have the opportunity to unlock the full potential of the WEkEO platform and utilize its extensive features to bring their projects to life, all while receiving guidance from experienced coaches and mentors.

The hackathon will revolve around five main challenges, each addressing a crucial aspect of climate change. Participants will be required to utilize a minimum of two data sources available on WEkEO to develop innovative projects related to coastal, arctic, health, energy, or wildcard themes.
The coastal challenge focuses on conserving and protecting coastal ecosystems while managing human activities and coastal hazards.
The Arctic challenge emphasizes the unique vulnerability of the region and the need for conservation amid growing economic and geopolitical interests.
The health challenge seeks to better understand the interlinkage between climate change and health, while the energy challenge aims to optimize the planning and management of renewable energy sources.
The wildcard challenge invites out-of-the-box thinkers to propose projects addressing various climate crisis-related issues, such as plastic pollution, reforestation, and sustainable food supply chains.
The hackathon agenda features several key events leading up to the main event.
On June 12th, participants can join the WEkEO Hackathon Warm-Up Kick-Off to get prepared and engaged.
On June 15th, an introduction to the WEkEO platform and data from Copernicus Services will be provided.
Matchmaking and team formation activities will take place on June 19th, followed by an opportunity to interact with WEkEO and Copernicus experts on June 20th.
Finally, on June 22nd and 23rd, participants will dive into the hackathon, dedicating their time and expertise to developing groundbreaking solutions.
An impressive prize pool awaits the winners of the WEkEO Hackathon. The top three teams will receive one-year access to the WEkEO platform’s paid cloud computing services, including access to datasets, Jupyter Notebooks, virtual machines, and processing tools.
Additionally, the winning teams will have the opportunity to showcase their projects in front of various audiences, gaining exposure and recognition for their innovative work.
The organizers will highlight the winning projects on the WEkEO website as valuable use cases. Participants will also receive certificates of participation, and winning team members will be awarded special winner certificates.
