X, previously recognized as Twitter, will no longer grant users the ability to block unwanted followers from commenting, an Elon Musk.
This decision has raised concerns, as it eliminates a crucial safety feature that has been in place for a long period.
The ability to block comments will now only apply to direct messages, Musk confirmed.
Mr Musk stated, “Block is going to be deleted as a “feature”, except for DMs.”
In the year following his acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion, Mr Musk has undertaken a significant transformation of the platform.
This transformation has involved workforce reductions, the reinstatement of accounts that were previously banned, and a recent rebranding of both the company and its platform, now known as X.
The rationale behind the decision to eliminate the Block function was not provided by Musk. He did emphasize that the mute function would remain available, though no specific timeframe for the change was mentioned.
“The Block function has been instrumental for users in curbing hateful content and harassment from appearing in response to their posts.”
The Mute feature, in contrast, only shields the individual user from viewing undesired responses without eradicating them from the feeds of others.
Over time, Twitter users have also frequently employed the Block feature for purposes such as boycotts and to evade content from specific brands or promoters appearing on their timelines.
