The Mombasa Tourism Innovation Lab, based at the Swahilipot Hub, has kicked off a training program aimed at nurturing 20 tourism innovators in Mombasa County.

These innovators represent a diverse range of grassroots tourism and cultural heritage products, signaling a significant step towards enriching the tourism landscape in Mombasa while simultaneously generating employment opportunities for young individuals.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Mombasa Tourism Innovation Lab, underscores the importance of fostering innovation within the local tourism sector.

By empowering individuals with the skills and resources necessary to develop and showcase unique tourism offerings, the lab aims to revitalize the tourism product in Mombasa.

Through this rejuvenation process, the goal is to attract more visitors to the region, thereby enhancing its overall appeal as a tourist destination.

“We are amazed by the innovation demonstrated by the people of Mombasa. With the right support and encouragement, we firmly believe that we can breathe new life into the Mombasa tourism experience, ultimately leading to increased visitation and greater destination appeal,” SwahiliPot Hub noted.

Funding for the Mombasa Tourism Innovation Lab has been provided by the European Union, with management and co-funding overseen by Camoes IP as part of the Go-Blue Tourism and Cultural Heritage Component.

This financial support underscores the commitment of both local and international stakeholders to invest in initiatives that promote sustainable tourism development and economic growth in Mombasa.
