“We are excited to support the next generation of justice innovators. The HiiL Justice Accelerator Programme provides these promising startups with the resources, guidance, and networks they need to grow their businesses and make a real difference in people’s lives,” the initiative noted.

In 2024, the Justice Accelerator is actively searching for game-changers, particularly among startups in Kenya, MENA, and Nigeria.

These game-changers must meet specific criteria set forth by the accelerator. First and foremost, they need to offer people-centered solutions that effectively address justice problems, especially those highlighted in the Justice Needs and Satisfaction surveys.

Additionally, these startups must have a functioning product with traction, demonstrating user engagement, revenue generation, and customer demand.

Equally important is the presence of a strong and committed team of founders dedicated to driving change. Moreover, startups must present a clear and sustainable revenue model, showcasing their ability to sustain growth.

Lastly, the accelerator seeks startups with a vision and ambition to scale beyond their immediate markets, indicating a readiness for expansion and impact on a broader scale.

In Kenya, the Justice Accelerator’s focus for 2024 revolves around specific challenges identified in the Justice Needs and Satisfaction surveys.

Firstly, there is a need for innovative solutions to address crime-related issues effectively. Startups offering solutions in this area could significantly impact the justice landscape by providing effective crime prevention and resolution mechanisms.

Additionally, the accelerator aims to support Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (mSMEs), recognizing their importance in driving economic growth and development. Lastly, there is a pressing need for solutions addressing Sexual Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) challenges, reflecting the accelerator’s commitment to promoting gender equality and ensuring access to justice for all individuals, particularly vulnerable populations affected by SGBV.

By focusing on these key areas, the accelerator aims to catalyze impactful change and contribute to the advancement of justice and equality in Kenya.

Applications for the 2024 HiiL Justice Accelerator Programme are open until April 4, 2024. Interested startups can learn more and apply online at here.
