Rivian reveals $45,000 R2 Electric SUV

Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has launched the R2 electric SUV alongside the R3 and R3X on their Thursday livestream.

The R2 version comes with a larger battery pack promising at least 300 miles per charge. Users are promised multiple fueling options including a NACS charge port which will enable it work with Tesla superchargers.

Customers have three motor layouts to choose from that include the standard motor rear-wheel drive model, the dual-motor all wheel-drive model and finally the beastly tri-motor model featuring two motors at the back and one in front. The last model is seemingly powerful, it goes from zero to 60 in just three seconds according to the engadget blog.

The R2 also comes with two gloveboxes, two scroll wheels on the steering wheel. The self driving features also reveal a major facelift. There are 11 cameras throughout, five radars including a front facing radar and its pretty spacious compared to the R1. Priced at $45,000, the R2 hosts 5 people. It also comes in an open-air design with quarter windows that pop out, a rear glass window drops and opens and seats that fold flat on both rows.

engadget notes that the R3 is more compact than the R2. It features a shorter wheelbase and an overall tighter design.

Reportedly, the company is building its own charging network dubbed the Rivian Adventure Network with plans to have 600 locations in a few years to come. The R2is currently available on pre-order with shipping set for 2026.
