Ecobank Group Bolsters Leadership Team with Key Strategic Appointments

Ecobank, the pan-African financial services group, recently announced the appointment of key senior executives to bolster its leadership team and drive the implementation of its new Growth, Transformation, and Returns (GTR) strategy.

Among the appointees are Abena Osei-Poku, who assumes the roles of Regional Executive Anglophone West Africa and Managing Director of Ecobank Ghana; Martin Miruka, appointed as Group Executive for Transformation, Enablement, and Customer Experience; Anup Suri, taking on the position of Group Executive for Commercial and Consumer Banking; Michael Larbie, appointed as Group Executive for Corporate and Investment Banking; and Thierry Mbimi, joining as Group Executive for Internal Audit and Management Services.

These strategic appointments are pivotal for Ecobank as it embarks on its next phase of growth and transformation, aiming to solidify its position as the preferred bank and a leader in delivering innovative and accessible financial products and solutions across Africa.

The decision to consolidate the commercial and consumer businesses under the leadership of Anup Suri underscores the company’s commitment to strengthening these core units to drive growth.

Additionally, the creation of the new role of Transformation, Enablement, and Customer Experience reflects the company’s determination to prioritize effective leadership in executing its transformational agenda.

Chief Executive Officer of Ecobank Group, Jeremy Awori expressed his satisfaction with the appointments, highlighting their importance in executing the recently unveiled five-year Growth, Transformation, and Returns strategy.

He praised the new executives for their extensive experience in both global and African financial services, expressing confidence in their ability to drive Ecobank’s future growth and success.

Abena Osei-Poku, who joined Ecobank in January, brings over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, with expertise in corporate and investment banking, business banking, and risk management across Africa.

Martin Miruka, who joined in February, boasts 25 years of experience as a C-suite executive and business strategist, with a focus on pan-African transformation.

Anup Suri, assuming his role in March, brings over 30 years of senior leadership experience across various industries and geographies.

Michael Larbie, also starting in March, brings over 25 years of global senior financial services and investment banking experience. Thierry Mbimi, joining in March as well, brings 27 years of extensive industry and consulting experience, particularly in audit and risk management.

These appointments signal Ecobank’s commitment to driving growth and transformation, as it continues to innovate and expand its footprint across the African continent.
