Apple has introduced music streaming service option for apps distributed in the European Union. This update comes after the EU fined Apple over €1.8 billion for abusing its position and setting anti-competitive rules in the App store against its competitors.

In particular, the commission sued Apple for applying restrictions on app developers that prevented them from giving iOS users cheaper options on music subscription services which is illegal under the EU antitrust rules.

Music streamers can now use external websites in the EU to access Apple Music. The music streaming apps can as well invite users to provide their email addresses and buy digital music via developers website. Also, game emulators can now use the Apple platform. Developers can create and distribute game emulators on the app store worldwide.

Previously, according to 9TOSMaC, developers would distribute game emulators to iOS users by bypassing Apple’s review process to hide emulators but with the changes in regulations, it will be a much smoother process.

However, the new Apple guidelines on music streaming apps will only apply to apps distributed within the EU region.
