TikTok banned over 60,000 accounts and removed 360,000 videos from its platform in Kenya, in its ongoing efforts to foster a safe and positive user experience, TikTok announced in its Q2 2024 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report.

TikTok said the move is part of its proactive approach to content moderation in Kenya and the rest of the world.

The report reveals that over 360,000 videos were removed from TikTok in Kenya, which is 0.3% of the total videos uploaded in the country in the latest reporting period. The report also show that 99.1% of these videos were proactively removed before users reported them, with 95% taken down within 24 hours.

A total of 60,465 accounts were banned for violating TikTok’s Community Guidelines, with 57,262 accounts being removed because they were suspected to be under the age of 13.

With over a billion users and millions of pieces of content posted daily, TikTok continues to invest in advanced technologies that enhance content understanding and assess potential risks. These innovations allow the platform to detect and remove harmful content before it reaches viewers. In June 2024 alone, the platform removed over 178 million videos globally, with 144 million of those removed through automation. These technical advancements significantly reduce the volume of content that human moderators need to review, thereby minimizing their exposure to violative material. With a proactive detection rate now at 98.2% globally, TikTok is more efficient than ever at addressing harmful content before users encounter it.
