Samsung Electronics has launched the Galaxy A18 LTE and Galaxy A08 LTE in Kenya, expanding its smartphone lineup with better AI features, larger battery capacity and six years of software support as manufacturers compete for budget-conscious consumers.
The Galaxy A18 LTE starts at KSh 32,000 for the 4GB RAM and 128GB storage configuration, while the Galaxy A08 LTE costs KSh 23,300 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB model.
Both smartphones feature 90Hz displays, 50-megapixel main cameras, 25W fast charging and IP64-rated protection against dust and water splashes. Samsung is promising six generations of operating system upgrades and six years of security maintenance releases for both devices.
The Galaxy A18 LTE features a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display and is powered by the Exynos 1610/G99+ platform. Its camera system comprises a 50MP autofocus main camera, a 5MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP sensor. The phone has a 5,000mAh battery.
The Galaxy A08 LTE runs on the Helio G99+ platform and has a 6.7-inch HD+ PLS LCD display. It comes with a 6,000mAh battery, a 50MP autofocus main camera, a 2MP rear sensor and an 8MP front-facing camera.
Samsung is bringing its Circle to Search 3.0 feature to both models, allowing users to search for information directly from content displayed on their screens. The feature can help identify products, outfits and music, translate content and surface information about items being viewed. It can also offer actions related to information such as phone numbers, addresses, email addresses and website links.
The devices support AI assistants Gemini and Perplexity, giving users additional ways to access information and perform tasks across supported applications using voice commands or a long press.
Both phones include Samsung Knox Vault, a hardware-based security system designed to protect sensitive information such as passwords and biometric data. RAM Plus uses device storage to provide virtual memory for multitasking.
Users can also connect the smartphones to Samsung’s wider ecosystem, including Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Tab devices, as well as services such as SmartThings, Samsung Health, Quick Share and Modes & Routines.
The company will offer additional storage configurations later in the year. The Galaxy A18 LTE with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage will cost KSh 51,600, while the Galaxy A08 LTE with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage will cost KSh 33,100.
Both models support microSD cards with storage expansion of up to 2TB.
The launch adds two devices to Samsung’s Galaxy A Series in Kenya, with the A08 positioned as the lower-priced option and the A18 offering a higher-resolution display and an additional ultra-wide camera. The extended software-support commitment is also intended to keep the devices usable and secure for longer after purchase.
