Google announced last month that YouTube would discontinue the dislike count on videos, a change that has already taken effect and has sparked heated debate among users.

Those who want to keep their YouTube dislike counts alive for a little while longer can do so with the help of a handy browser extension, at least for the time being.

Return Youtube Dislike is a third-party browser extension and API that restores YouTube’s dislike count. Dmitry Selivanov created it as an open-source application.

It is available as a Chrome extension and a Mozilla Firefox extension.

It is available for download from the Chrome web store and can be added to the most recent Microsoft Edge browser. It is also available through a website or a Github page.

On the Chrome web store, the extension has 50,000+ users and a 5-star rating from 1,122 reviews. It has nearly 8,000 users and a 5-star rating from 581 reviews on Mozilla Firefox Browser Add-ons.

The Return YouTube Dislike extension can be added in three steps, as detailed below:

•  In Chrome or Microsoft Edge, search for “chrome web store” and click on the highlighted red link. Remember to always double-check that the website link is legitimate. Alternatively, you can visit the official store by clicking here. If you’re using Mozilla Firefox, search for “Mozilla firefox extensions” or go to the Mozilla Firefox Browser Add-ons store.
•  After clicking the link, use the top left corner search tab to look for “Return youtube dislike.” Always double-check who is providing the extension. As shown in the image below, click on the highlight red extension.
• This should take you to the extension page, where you should click “Add to Chrome” and “Add extension” in the pop-up window. After installing the Return YouTube Dislike extension, hit the refresh button once to see the dislike count appear across the YouTube platform.
