Luxury automaker Ferrari has announced that it was recently targeted by a hacker who demanded a ransom related to certain client contact details.

The victim of the hack was Ferrari’s wholly-owned Italian subsidiary – Ferrari SpA. As a result of the incident, customer information including names, addresses, email addresses, and telephone numbers were exposed.

However, there is some good news amidst this breach – Ferrari has found no evidence to suggest that payment details, bank account numbers, or other sensitive payment information was accessed or stolen by the hacker. Ferrari has taken steps to notify its customers of the potential data exposure and the nature of the incident.

“Ferrari N.V. announces that Ferrari S.p.A., its wholly-owned Italian subsidiary, was recently contacted by a threat actor with a ransom demand related to certain client contact details,” the automaker said in a statement.

The company added that “Upon receipt of the ransom demand, we immediately started an investigation in collaboration with a leading global third-party cybersecurity firm.”

Ferrari has patched the situation by secure the compromised systems and says the attack has had no impact on the company’s operations.

The company further stated “As a policy, Ferrari will not be held to ransom as paying such demands funds criminal activity and enables threat actors to perpetuate their attacks.”
