Kenya’s Safaricom Plans To execute E- Governance Solution At The State Law Office

Safaricom Business, one of Safaricom’s arms, have signed an agreement worth KSH 14 million with Kenya’s State Law Office that is intended to decentralize the service offered by the government agency.

Safaricom is the leading mobile network operator in Kenya, while  the State Law Office is a government arm that offers services like business name search, registration of company/business names, registration of societies, registration of marriages and adoption, registration of court of arms, registration of chattel mortgages, registration of books and public trustee department.

The package deal involves providing a wide area network connection which will network the State Law Office headquarters to its 12 regional branches whose net result will be faster services and decentralization.

Kenyans will now be able to pay for any services offered by the government office like company registration or wedding registration using M-PESA without having to go to Nairobi. The State Law Office will also acquire a USSD service through which Kenyans will be able to track their requests or make searches at their own convenience.

The office will also have the ability to disburse public trustee funds to various beneficiaries within the country through M-PESA. Safaricom Business will also provide a contact centre to mange customer’s issues affecting the State Law Office.

Kenya’s Attorney General, Githu Muigai said: “as the country embraces a devolvement system of government and seeks to offer services through digital platforms, we are glad to be partnering with Safaricom Business for this proposition. We are confident that this move will not only enhance efficiency in service delivery, but also encourages more Kenyans to open up businesses across he country.”

Safaricom’s CEO, Bob Collymore in support of this partnership said: “with an increasing population and growing economy, there is a need to embrace ICT-based solutions which will make the government deliver on all its expectations in a more efficient way. The State Law Office delivers services to hundreds of thousands of people everyday, and this and only be done effectively through solutions such as the one we are offering,”
