The Sony World Photography Awards together with Sony Middle East and Africa FZE launched a new competition to discover Kenya’s best photography.

This special award offers an amazing opportunity for budding photographers to have their work seen globally and be recognised alongside the world’s leading photographers.

The Kenya National Award is new for the 2014 Sony World Photography Awards and is open to photographers of all abilities from across the country.

To enter the competition, one has to send their entries via www.worldphoto.org and photographers can enter one of ten categories, no charges required.

There will be various judges who will uncover and honour the best single image by a Kenyan national from across these categories.

Announcing of the winner will be on the 18th March 2014.  The winning photographer will receive the latest Sony camera equipment and will together with two runners-up have his/her work displayed alongside professional photographers from around the globe as part of the 2014 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition to be held in London from 1st-18th May 2014. Their work will also be showcased online at www.worldphoto.org.

This competition recurs annually, the awards include: 15 Professional categories for serious photographers; 10 Open categories for enthusiasts; the Student Focus competition for higher education photography students aged 18-28 and a Youth Competition for photographers under 20.

The Open competition includes ten categories include; Architecture, Arts & Culture, Enhanced, Low-light, Nature & Wildlife, Panoramic, People, Smile, Split second and Travel.

The competition closes on January 6th at 23.59GMT and the entries will be judged firstly by the World Photography Organisation’s (WPO) pre-selection committee. A winner will be decided by a special judging panel.

Sony is looking to tap into a blossoming market as it seeks to entrench its foothold in the local consumer electronics market.

Its about time Africa’s talent to be recognized, however its easy for our originality is at stake as most of the best photographer per say come from the west so it is easy for our people to think that what they are doing is not good enough.
