South Africa’s fixed line operator, Telkom is seeking ways to strengthen its mobile operations which have been struggling over the recent past.
“We are in conversation with some parties around some possible options,” Chief Executive Sipho Maseko said according to Reuters.
The mobile unit has over 1.6 million users in South Africa. Telkom Mobile still lags behind industry leaders Vodacom, MTN and Cell C. The business is looking to spend less in terms of capital on their struggling mobile sector and hence looking for bigger players to pour money for its operation.
Telkom is also looking at cutting down their managerial staff, although this has not been made certain. The company has already let go of 9 percent of its workforce in budget cuts.
