IHS Holdings Completes Acquisition of MTN Group’s 1200 towers

Africa’s largest independent mobile infrastructure provider, IHS Holdings has completed the acquisition of 1,269 mobile network towers from MTN Group Limited’s operations in Rwanda and Zambia representing 100% of MTN’s towers in the two countries.

The firm acquired MTN Rwanda’s 550 and MTN Zambia’s 719 towers which it will run and invest in to support MTN’s future requirements in both countriesas the firm will become the towers anchor tenants even as the firm also runs operations for other firms inthe region.

In a statement IHS Group CEO Issam Darwish said:“We are pleased to reinforce our position as the leading independent mobile tower operator in Africa.  The IHS footprint now reaches across Africa into the East and we are delighted to be bringing our value proposition to new markets.  We have worked tirelessly to exceed 99.9% network uptime across the continent for MTN and will bring the same commitment to these new portfolios in Rwanda and Zambia.”

The firm has recently raised additional funding worth US$620 million which it intends to use for future acquisitions across Africa  and also develop its local engineering talent.
